Thames Academy: Curriculum
Thames Academy offers a unique 12-3-3-12-week curriculum. It combines ‘doable’ lengths of expanded class room time (12 weeks) with smaller condensed sessions (3 weeks) for intensive study and project/experiential learning. The academic calendar consists of:
September – November (12 Weeks)
- Fundamentals of College Writing (3 credits)
- Effective Communication (3 credits)
- First-Year Seminar (1 credit) Sample Course Syllabus
- Required Workshops (see examples below)
- Vocabulary & Writing
- Assistive Technology
- Budgeting and Money Management
- Team Building & Collaboration
- The College Search
- Required Small Group Tutoring or LRC Sessions
- Co-Curricular Involvement - participation in at least one campus club
November – December (3 weeks)
- Math Course (3 credits)
- Fitness, Conditioning and Nutrition(1 credit)
- Required Small Group Tutoring or LRC Sessions
- Co-Curricular Involvement – continuation
January – February (3 weeks)
- Math Course – continuation of course
- Recreation Course - continuation of course
- Required Small Group Tutoring or LRC Sessions
- Co-Curricular Involvement – continuation
February – May (12 weeks)
