Mitchell Woods

Mitchell College holds and manages Mitchell Woods as trustee through a trust created initially by Annie O. Mitchell in 1931, in memory of her husband, for the benefit of the citizens of New London. Mitchell College maintains the Woods as a park and recreation place for the public. Public facilities in the Woods presently include an extensive trail system, two little league baseball fields, four tennis courts, a playground, a volleyball court, a basketball court, a pavilion, the ice skating pond, and the Children's Learning Center. Activities in the Woods are reviewed by an advisory board consisting of five to nine members. The advisory board favors a minimal impact approach, and any projects or usage are subject to New London zoning and wetlands regulations.
